Sunday Igboho Claims Readiness to Assist in Rescue of Oyo Kidnapped Victims, Seeks Government Approval

Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has said he is willing to assist in efforts to rescue victims of the recent kidnapping incident in the Oriire area of Oyo State.

In a statement shared in a video circulating online, Igboho claimed that he possesses the capacity to support rescue operations but said he has not been granted permission by the Oyo State Government to participate.

He stated that Governor Seyi Makinde is aware of his offer, but questioned why approval had not been given for him to contribute to the ongoing security response.

According to him, he previously established a security initiative known as “Iru Ekun Security Network,” which he claims had federal-level recognition, but said the initiative was not approved by the state government for operations within Oyo State.

Igboho further stated that his interest in intervening is motivated by concern for national security and the safety of kidnapped victims, insisting that his position is not financially driven.

“I’m not asking for money… I only want to help rescue the victims because of my love for the nation,” he was quoted as saying in the video.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Government has not issued an official response to his claims or request for involvement in the rescue efforts.

Security operations aimed at securing the release of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area are reportedly ongoing, with authorities maintaining that professional security agencies are leading the response.

Security experts have continued to emphasize the importance of coordinated, lawful operations in hostage rescue situations to ensure the safety of victims and avoid escalation.

The incident has further intensified public discussion on community involvement in security matters and the regulation of non-state actors in crisis response.
