Stella Okoli's Remarks on Obasanjo's Engagement With Manufacturers Stir Debate Online

Comments attributed to Stella Okoli, founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, have sparked fresh conversations on social media after she reportedly contrasted the level of engagement between past and present administrations with Nigeria's manufacturing sector.

According to the widely shared statement, Okoli recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ) regularly held meetings with manufacturers to understand the challenges facing the industry.

"OBJ used to have regular meetings with manufacturers to know their challenges," the statement attributed to Okoli reads.

The remarks were accompanied by a social media post that appeared to criticize the current administration, asking:

"Guess the people Tinubu meets with regularly."

The post quickly generated mixed reactions online, with some users interpreting it as criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's level of engagement with key productive sectors of the economy.

Supporters of the comparison argued that regular consultations between government officials and manufacturers are essential for addressing issues such as rising production costs, foreign exchange shortages, multiple taxation, high energy prices, and other challenges affecting local industries.

Others, however, cautioned against drawing conclusions from a single remark, noting that different administrations may adopt different approaches to stakeholder engagement and policy formulation.

The discussion comes at a time when Nigerian manufacturers continue to express concerns over inflation, exchange rate volatility, energy costs, and declining consumer purchasing power, all of which have impacted production and business operations.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Presidency regarding the viral comparison or the accompanying social media commentary.

The comments have nonetheless reignited public debate over government engagement with the private sector and the role of consistent dialogue in shaping policies that support Nigeria's industrial growth.
