Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has strongly rejected allegations that he is a tribal bigot, describing the claims as false and accusing social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) of spreading misinformation.
In a heated response, Seun Kuti dismissed the accusation, insisting that there is no evidence to support such a label.
"The idiot is making up lies. There is no evidence that I am a tribal bigot. My security that I put my life in his hands is an Igbo man. Is it because I have enmity with Peter Obi?" he said.
The singer argued that his personal relationships contradict claims of ethnic bias, pointing to the fact that he entrusts his personal security to an Igbo man.
Seun also questioned whether his long-standing political disagreements with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi were being misrepresented as ethnic hostility.
The latest remarks come amid an ongoing war of words between Seun Kuti and VeryDarkMan, with both public figures exchanging criticisms that have generated widespread reactions on social media.
Supporters of Seun Kuti argued that opposing a political figure should not automatically be interpreted as tribal prejudice, while others maintained that public figures should exercise caution in their comments to avoid fueling ethnic tensions.
Neither VeryDarkMan nor Peter Obi had publicly responded to Seun Kuti's latest statement as of the time of this report.
The exchange has continued to spark debate online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the boundaries between political criticism, personal attacks, and allegations of ethnic bias in the country's increasingly polarized public discourse.
