Reports Claim Kidnappers of Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers Issued Demands; Authorities Yet to Confirm

Reports circulating on social media and among local sources have claimed that the individuals responsible for the abduction of children and teachers in Oyo State presented a list of demands as part of negotiations for the release of their captives.

According to the reports, the alleged demands include the payment of ₦1 billion into an account reportedly located in the Republic of Benin, the release of certain detainees held in Agodi and Abolongo correctional facilities, the provision of two Hilux vehicles, and the introduction of Sharia law through amendments to Oyo State legislation.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Oyo State Government have not publicly confirmed the authenticity of the reported demands.

The kidnapping has generated widespread concern among residents and renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect schools, teachers, and students across the state. Community leaders and civil society groups have urged the authorities to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of all victims while ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.

Security analysts have cautioned against drawing conclusions from unverified information circulating online, noting that details surrounding hostage negotiations are often difficult to independently verify during ongoing investigations.

Authorities have continued to appeal for calm and cooperation from the public as security operations and investigations into the incident proceed.

The kidnapping has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges facing parts of the country and the need for coordinated efforts among government agencies, security forces, and local communities to combat violent crime and protect vulnerable populations.
