Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has moved to quell speculations surrounding recent comments attributed to Super Eagles Technical Director Eric Chelle, describing the controversy as a misunderstanding caused by remarks being taken out of context.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Osimhen revealed that he had personally spoken with Chelle over the phone regarding the interview that sparked widespread reactions among football fans and the media.
According to the Galatasaray forward, the conversation helped clarify the situation, emphasizing that Chelle holds the Turkish club in high regard and regularly follows the team's matches.
"I just spoke on the phone with Technical Director Eric Chelle regarding the comments he made about me in his recent interview," Osimhen said.
"Unfortunately, his words were taken out of context and blown way out of proportion. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our matches, and never intended to stir up any controversy."
The Super Eagles star expressed satisfaction with the discussion, noting that he remains committed to representing Nigeria whenever called upon and looks forward to continuing his professional relationship with the national team's technical director.
"I appreciate this conversation, as I always value the opportunity to represent my country, and I'm eagerly looking forward to continuing to work with him," Osimhen added.
Describing Chelle as an excellent technical director, the striker reiterated the mutual respect between both men and urged supporters to ignore rumors and speculation surrounding the issue.
"He's an excellent technical director whom I hold in very high regard. I also kindly ask everyone to disregard any speculation on this matter."
