Members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) have reportedly apprehended several suspected members of the Vikings Confraternity in Uromi over allegations of theft and the use of hard drugs.
According to local accounts, the suspects were arrested during a coordinated operation following reports of rising petty theft and suspected drug-related activities in parts of the community. The OPC members allegedly acted on intelligence provided by residents who raised concerns about insecurity in the area.
Witnesses stated that the suspects were found in possession of substances believed to be hard drugs at the time of their arrest. Items suspected to have been stolen from residents were also reportedly recovered during the operation.
Community members in Uromi expressed mixed reactions to the incident, with some praising the OPC for assisting in curbing crime, while others raised concerns about vigilantism and the need for proper law enforcement procedures.
Security analysts have repeatedly warned against the involvement of non-state actors in law enforcement activities, stressing that such actions should be handled by official security agencies to avoid escalation or abuse.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Edo State Police Command nor representatives of the alleged confraternity have issued an official statement regarding the incident.
