“Nigeria’s Insecurity Is Beyond Our Government, Only God Can End It” — Matawalle Amid Rising Security Concerns

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has said that Nigeria’s security challenges have become deeply complex, suggesting that the situation may be beyond the full capacity of government alone to resolve.

Speaking on the worsening wave of insecurity across parts of the country, Matawalle stated that the scale and persistence of killings, kidnappings, and armed attacks reflect a crisis that requires both national effort and divine intervention.

“Nigeria’s insecurity is beyond our government, only God can end it,” he was quoted as saying.

The remarks come amid renewed public concern over rising incidents of violence in several regions, including attacks on rural communities, highways, and farming settlements, which have left many citizens displaced or fearful of movement.

The statement has sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians interpreting it as an honest reflection of the severity of the security situation, while others criticized it as an admission of limited state capacity to address the crisis.

Security analysts note that Nigeria continues to face multi-dimensional threats including banditry in the North-West, insurgency in the North-East, and kidnapping-for-ransom operations in several parts of the country.

Government officials have repeatedly assured citizens that security forces are actively engaged in operations aimed at restoring peace, including coordinated military actions, intelligence gathering, and community-based security initiatives.

As of the time of filing this report, no further clarification has been issued by the Ministry of Defence regarding the Minister’s comments.
