Man Arrested in Benin Over Alleged Attempt to Escape With ₦1.2 Million Samsung Galaxy Fold Ordered on Pay-on-Delivery Basis
A man has reportedly been caught in Benin City after allegedly attempting to abscond with a Samsung Galaxy Fold worth over ₦1.2 million, ordered on a pay-on-delivery arrangement.
According to accounts circulating online, the suspect was apprehended shortly after receiving the high-end mobile device without making immediate payment, allegedly attempting to leave the scene before completing the transaction.
The incident reportedly occurred during a delivery operation, where the courier system flagged the transaction after the recipient allegedly became evasive following receipt of the device.
Witnesses said the situation escalated when delivery agents tracked and intercepted the individual, leading to his eventual apprehension.
The development has sparked renewed discussion on the risks associated with pay-on-delivery services, a system widely used in Nigeria’s e-commerce sector to build customer trust but sometimes exploited in fraudulent transactions.
E-commerce analysts note that while pay-on-delivery increases accessibility for buyers, it also exposes vendors and logistics companies to potential losses when customers refuse to pay after receiving goods.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not released an official statement, and details surrounding the incident remain based on preliminary reports and social media accounts.
