President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on young Nigerians to remain in the country and contribute to national development, emphasizing that Nigeria remains both their “home and future.”
Speaking during his June 12 address, the President urged youths to focus on building opportunities locally rather than seeking to relocate abroad in search of better prospects.
“To our young people, Nigeria is your home and future. Build here, work here and develop here, no need to Japa,” Tinubu said.
He further encouraged citizens to draw inspiration from nations that achieved development through the commitment of their citizens, noting that progress is often driven by those who choose to stay and solve domestic challenges.
“Every great nation was built by those who stayed to solve problems, not by those who abandon ship,” he added.
The statement has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with some Nigerians agreeing with the President’s call for patriotism and nation-building, while others pointed to economic hardship, unemployment, and insecurity as key drivers of emigration trends.
June 12 is observed in Nigeria as Democracy Day, commemorating the annulled 1993 presidential election widely regarded as a landmark in the country’s democratic history.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no additional clarification from the Presidency regarding the remarks.
