A mass funeral has been held for 17 people reportedly killed by suspected bandits in Goran Namaye community, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims were laid to rest following the attack, which has left residents of the community in mourning and renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting parts of the state.
According to local accounts, the deceased were among those affected by a violent raid attributed to armed groups operating in the region. The incident has further heightened fear among residents, many of whom continue to call for stronger security intervention in rural communities.
Community members, relatives, and sympathizers gathered for the funeral rites held yesterday, with prayers offered for the repose of the souls of the victims.
“May Almighty Allah forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannah,” mourners were heard praying during the burial proceedings.
Zamfara State has remained one of the hardest-hit regions in Nigeria’s ongoing security crisis, with repeated attacks linked to armed bandit groups leading to loss of lives, displacement, and disruption of farming activities.
Security agencies have yet to release an official statement detailing the circumstances of the latest attack, while residents continue to appeal for urgent government action to restore peace and protect vulnerable communities.
