President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s proposed hosting of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football, alongside this year’s CAF Awards ceremony.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi after a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
Also present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President Amaju Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to take place in October and will bring together presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of zonal unions, and senior football administrators from across Africa.
The CAF Awards ceremony, one of African football’s most prestigious annual events, celebrates outstanding players, coaches, teams, and football personalities across the continent.
Sports stakeholders say Nigeria’s hosting of both events could boost the country’s international sports profile, tourism, and football diplomacy within Africa.
