Traffic activities were brought to a standstill along the busy Benin–Lagos Expressway after protesters reportedly blocked sections of the highway during a demonstration tagged “Tinubu Must Go” protest.
In a video circulating on social media, a man documenting the incident was heard expressing shock as large crowds gathered on the road, chanting slogans and preventing vehicles from moving through the major transport corridor linking Edo and Lagos states.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that protesters occupied strategic points of the expressway, forcing motorists to halt while commuters were left stranded for hours. The demonstration reportedly caused heavy gridlock, with long queues of vehicles stretching across both lanes of the highway.
Participants were seen carrying placards and chanting against economic hardship and governance issues, reflecting growing public frustration over the country’s current socio-economic conditions. Some protesters insisted the action was meant to draw national attention to their demands.
Motorists and residents in nearby areas expressed mixed reactions, with some supporting the protest as a legitimate expression of democratic rights, while others criticized the blockade for disrupting movement and commercial activities.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were said to have been deployed to the area to monitor the situation and restore normal traffic flow. There were no confirmed reports of violence or arrests.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the protest, while observers note that the incident highlights rising political tensions and increasing street demonstrations across parts of the country.
