The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a modest improvement in the country’s electricity supply, revealing that power generation rose from 3,951 megawatts (MW) to 4,300MW between March 28 and April 10.
The development, disclosed on Sunday, represents a gain of 349MW within the period, offering a slight boost to the national grid amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the power sector.
Officials say the increase is part of broader interventions aimed at improving generation capacity, enhancing transmission efficiency, and addressing persistent challenges in the electricity value chain. The government noted that while the progress is encouraging, more work remains to achieve consistent and reliable power supply across the country.
Industry stakeholders have often pointed to issues such as gas supply constraints, aging infrastructure, and grid instability as key factors limiting optimal electricity generation in Nigeria.
Despite the recent improvement, many Nigerians continue to experience erratic power supply, with experts urging sustained investment and reforms to ensure long-term stability in the sector.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing reforms and projects designed to gradually increase generation capacity and improve electricity distribution nationwide.
