Sowore Criticises Abia Governor Alex Otti, Describes Administration as “Half Transformation”

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the administration of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, describing the governor’s performance as a failure after a recent visit to the state.

Sowore made the remarks in a statement shared on social media, where he claimed that firsthand observations during his visit to Abia informed his assessment of the current administration.

“After visiting Abia State, I can confirm to everyone that Alex Otti is a failure. I don’t believe in half transformation,” he stated.

The activist argued that governance should deliver comprehensive and visible development rather than what he described as partial improvements. According to him, meaningful leadership must reflect broad-based progress across infrastructure, economic development, and public welfare.

His comments have sparked debate online, with supporters of Governor Otti defending ongoing reforms in the state, while critics echoed Sowore’s concerns about the pace and scope of development.

Governor Otti, who assumed office under the Labour Party platform in 2023, has repeatedly highlighted road reconstruction projects, civil service reforms, and efforts to improve Abia’s financial management as key achievements of his administration.

Political observers note that Sowore’s criticism adds to the growing national discourse evaluating the performance of state governors midway into their first term, as public expectations for rapid transformation remain high across Nigeria.

As of the time of filing this report, the Abia State Government had not issued an official response to Sowore’s remarks.
