Controversial Nigerian street-hop singer, Portable, has sparked widespread backlash on social media following a viral video in which he made inflammatory remarks about the 2027 general elections and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the video circulating online, the singer warned that Nigerians who do not support Tinubu at the polls risk serious consequences, making statements many viewers described as threatening and inappropriate. Portable also claimed he had been “signed” politically and given campaign clothing associated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that he would soon distribute rice and vegetable oil to supporters.
The remarks quickly triggered strong reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians condemning the singer’s comments as reckless and capable of inciting political tension. Critics argued that electoral choices should remain a personal democratic right free from intimidation or coercion.
Several users called on public figures and entertainers to exercise caution when discussing politics, stressing that Nigeria’s fragile political climate requires responsible communication, especially from influencers with large youth followings.
Others questioned the growing involvement of celebrities in partisan campaigns, warning that inflammatory rhetoric could deepen divisions ahead of future elections.
As of the time of reporting, neither the presidency nor the APC has issued an official statement addressing Portable’s claims or comments. The singer himself has also not released any clarification or apology following the backlash.
The incident adds to a long list of controversies surrounding Portable, whose outspoken online presence has repeatedly generated public debate and criticism.
