Supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, popularly known as the Obidient Movement, have issued a stern warning to opportunistic politicians attempting to ride on Obi’s popularity to gain political relevance or secure power.
In a statement circulating across social media platforms, the movement declared that they would no longer allow “ungrateful and self-serving” individuals to infiltrate or exploit their structure for personal political gain.
“Obidients will never allow ungrateful people near the movement again. Take note of fake politicians who want to ride on the influence of Peter Obi to get into power. We’re not going to allow that again,” the statement read.
The warning comes amid growing concerns that some politicians who benefited from the Obidient wave during the 2023 elections have since distanced themselves from the movement’s ideals or shifted allegiance for personal advantage.
Members of the movement emphasized that their support for Peter Obi was based on integrity, accountability, and genuine desire for a new Nigeria, not political convenience.
“This movement was built on trust, transparency, and the hunger for good governance. Anyone who betrayed those values should not expect our support again,” one supporter wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Analysts note that the Obidient Movement, which emerged as a powerful grassroots force in 2023, continues to shape political discourse in Nigeria, particularly among young voters seeking change from the old political order.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to supporting credible and principled leaders while distancing itself from individuals attempting to manipulate the movement’s influence for personal or partisan gain.
