Northern Sheikh Criticizes Tinubu Over Insecurity, Questions Protection of Citizens

A prominent Northern Islamic cleric has openly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the country’s worsening insecurity, questioning how the president was able to protect his own family while many Nigerians continue to suffer attacks by bandits.

In an emotional statement, the cleric reportedly broke down in tears while addressing the administration’s response to violent crime and insecurity across several states.

“How were you able to protect your son, Seyi, but failed to protect poor Nigerians from bandits?” he asked, highlighting public frustration with the federal government’s handling of security challenges.

The comments come amid rising concerns over attacks, kidnappings, and clashes with armed groups in parts of Northern Nigeria. Citizens, civil society organizations, and religious leaders have increasingly voiced dissatisfaction with perceived lapses in government protection and accountability.

Observers note that the cleric’s remarks underscore a broader national debate over security policies, the effectiveness of government interventions, and the disparity between protections afforded to political elites versus ordinary citizens.

As of press time, the presidency had not issued an official response to the cleric’s criticisms, which have since circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the urgent call for stronger measures against banditry and improved safety for Nigerians nationwide.
