The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has denied allegations that he received financial support from Abuja to campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
Speaking in a recent statement, MC Oluomo insisted that his involvement in the campaign was personally funded, stressing that he did not collect “a dime” from government sources or political authorities.
According to him, he committed significant personal resources to support the presidential campaign, including securing accommodation for campaign workers across several months.
“I did not collect a dime from Abuja to campaign for Tinubu. I used my personal money and collected 140 hotel rooms, paying ₦45,000 each per room daily. They used about four months, and I also gave them money every day,” he said.
The NURTW leader explained that his actions were driven by loyalty and personal conviction rather than financial incentives, adding that he voluntarily supported the campaign because he believed in Tinubu’s leadership.
His remarks come amid ongoing political debates and accusations from critics who have alleged that political mobilizers and grassroots leaders were financially induced during the election period.
MC Oluomo, however, maintained that his contributions were sacrifices made out of commitment, noting that he bore the financial burden himself throughout the campaign duration.
The statement has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with supporters praising his loyalty while critics questioned the scale of the expenses and the transparency surrounding campaign financing.
Political analysts say the development reflects the continued public scrutiny of campaign funding and the role played by influential grassroots mobilizers in Nigeria’s electoral process.
