INEC Boss Highlights Discipline, BVAS Compliance, and Staff Integrity Ahead of Ekiti and Osun Elections
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amupitan, has underscored the importance of discipline, adherence to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and staff integrity as central to restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.
In remarks ahead of the upcoming Ekiti and Osun State elections, Amupitan stressed that effective election management relies not only on technology but also on the ethical conduct of personnel involved in the electoral process. He emphasized that compliance with BVAS protocols is critical to ensure transparency, accuracy, and credibility in voter accreditation and result collation.
“Restoring trust in our electoral system starts with disciplined operations, proper use of BVAS, and the integrity of our staff at all levels,” Amupitan said.
The INEC Chairman also reiterated the commission’s commitment to providing adequate training and supervision for electoral officials, highlighting that voter confidence depends on the visible fairness and professionalism of the election management body.
Observers note that these statements come amid heightened public scrutiny and expectations, as citizens and political stakeholders closely monitor preparations for the forthcoming gubernatorial polls in Ekiti and Osun States.
Analysts suggest that by emphasizing accountability and compliance, INEC aims to mitigate previous concerns about electoral malpractice and build confidence in the electoral process.
