Nollywood actor Francis Odega has shared details about how his now-famous catchphrase, “Gerara here”, skyrocketed to popularity and earned him lucrative opportunities, including payment from top Nigerian rapper Olamide.
Odega revealed that while he was in South Africa, Olamide reached out seeking permission to use his voice and lines “Gerara here” and “You don’t know nothing” in a track by Lil Kesh. He granted permission and was paid in dollars for the use of his voice.
“Who no call me when ‘Gerara here’ was trending, even Bracket Yori Yori. Even Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent reposted me. I then got a whole lot of endorsements. I was once Etisalat ambassador. For three years I was with them. I went to South Africa and did DStv adverts,” Odega recounted.
The actor’s revelation highlights how a simple catchphrase from Nollywood can transcend national boundaries, going viral online and opening doors for international recognition and commercial endorsements.
Fans and industry observers have praised Odega for leveraging his talent and timing, noting that his story exemplifies the growing interplay between Nollywood, Nigerian music, and global social media trends.
