Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that the ongoing electricity challenges facing the country are largely beyond the immediate control of the government, sparking fresh debate among Nigerians over the state of the nation’s power sector.
Speaking amid growing complaints about erratic electricity supply nationwide, Adelabu acknowledged the severity of the crisis but explained that several underlying structural and operational issues continue to hinder stable power generation and distribution.
According to the minister, factors such as gas supply constraints, aging infrastructure, transmission limitations, and longstanding sectoral debts have significantly affected electricity generation and delivery across Nigeria. He noted that many of these problems accumulated over decades and cannot be resolved overnight.
“The current electricity crisis in Nigeria is beyond our control,” Adelabu reportedly said, emphasizing that the government is working with relevant stakeholders to stabilize the sector and improve power availability over time.
His remarks come as households and businesses across the country struggle with prolonged outages, rising energy costs, and increased dependence on generators, further worsening economic pressures on citizens.
