Baruwa Returns as NURTW National President After Court Reportedly Sacks MC Oluomo

Leadership crisis has resurfaced within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) following reports that a court ruling has reinstated Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the union’s National President, effectively removing Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, from the position.

According to sources familiar with the development, the court allegedly nullified the leadership structure that brought MC Oluomo to power, ruling in favour of Baruwa’s claim to the presidency of the influential transport union. The decision is said to have reaffirmed Baruwa as the legitimate national leader pending further legal proceedings.

The NURTW has been embroiled in a prolonged internal power struggle, with rival factions laying claim to the union’s national leadership following disagreements over succession and constitutional procedures within the organisation.

MC Oluomo, a prominent transport union figure and former Lagos State chairman of the union, had emerged as national president amid controversy, a move that was challenged in court by Baruwa and his supporters.

The reported ruling has sparked mixed reactions among union members and political observers. Supporters of Baruwa welcomed the development, describing it as a victory for due process and internal democracy within the union.

However, loyalists of MC Oluomo have reportedly questioned the interpretation of the judgment, insisting that legal consultations are ongoing and that further clarification may be sought through appeals.

Industry stakeholders say the leadership tussle could affect coordination among transport workers nationwide if not resolved quickly. The NURTW plays a significant role in managing motor parks and regulating commercial transport activities across Nigeria.

Observers have therefore urged both camps to maintain calm and respect legal processes to prevent disruptions in transport operations.

As of press time, neither Baruwa nor MC Oluomo had released an official detailed statement addressing the reported court decision, leaving union members awaiting clearer direction on the next leadership steps.
