25 Missing Underage Girls from Ebonyi Found in Anambra Brothel; Wider Trafficking Network Revealed

Authorities have rescued 25 underage Igbo girls from Ebonyi State who were found in a brothel in Aguileri, Anambra State, where they were reportedly being exploited for prostitution.

Investigations revealed that several other underage girls were also at the location, raising concerns about the scale of human trafficking and child exploitation in the region.

Reports indicate that underage girls from Ebonyi and other states are being trafficked to cities such as Ondo, Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja, as well as to Ghana and Benin, for forced prostitution.

Security agencies and child protection authorities are now intensifying efforts to identify and dismantle trafficking networks, while calling on the public to report suspicious activities.

Advocates for children’s rights have condemned the trafficking network, emphasizing the urgent need for stricter enforcement of anti-trafficking laws, community vigilance, and protective interventions to safeguard minors from exploitation.

The rescue underscores the growing challenge of human trafficking in Nigeria, particularly targeting vulnerable minors, and highlights the necessity of a coordinated response from law enforcement, social services, and civil society.
