In a significant development for regional security, United States military aircraft have begun arriving in Maiduguri, Borno State, marking the start of a new phase of security cooperation between the US and Nigeria.
A US military plane touched down Thursday night at Maiduguri International Airport, with additional aircraft expected over the weekend as part of a phased deployment involving approximately 200 American personnel.
Officials describe the deployment as part of a collaborative effort to strengthen counterterrorism operations, enhance intelligence sharing, and support Nigerian forces in addressing ongoing threats from insurgent groups in the northeast.
Security analysts note that the presence of US personnel and equipment is expected to bolster Nigerian military capabilities, particularly in Borno, which remains a frontline state in the fight against Boko Haram and other extremist groups.
Local authorities have assured residents that all operations will be conducted in coordination with Nigerian security forces, aiming to improve stability, protect civilians, and disrupt insurgent activities in the region.
The deployment comes amid renewed efforts to intensify regional security cooperation and reflects both nations’ commitment to tackling terrorism and restoring safety to affected communities in northeastern Nigeria.
