Billionaire businessman Arthur Eze has sparked mixed reactions after campaigning in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a church gathering, where he outlined reasons he believes Igbos should support the current administration.
Speaking to the congregation, Eze reportedly cited the president’s appointment of key Igbo political figures including Nyesom Wike and David Umahi as federal ministers, as well as Tinubu’s marriage to a Christian, as factors he said demonstrate inclusiveness toward the Southeast.
His remarks quickly circulated online and drew sharp criticism from some Nigerians, who disagreed with his arguments and questioned his conclusions. Several critics expressed frustration in social media posts, disputing his claims and rejecting his endorsement message. Some comments were strongly worded, reflecting the tense political climate and ongoing regional debates over representation and performance in government.
Supporters of the president, however, defended Eze’s position, saying political support should be based on individual conviction and interpretation of government actions.
The presidency has not issued any statement in response to the controversy, while analysts note that political messaging delivered in religious settings often generates heightened public reaction, especially when tied to ethnic and regional voting appeals.
