Prof. Ogolo Says Governor Fubara Was “Too Early” to Challenge FCT Minister Wike

During a press briefing today, Professor Ogolo commented on the political dynamics between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Nyesom Wike, stating that the governor acted prematurely in confronting the FCT Minister.

Prof. Ogolo said, “Gov Fubara was too early to fight the FCT minister. If I were him, I would not have fought. I would have been sleeping while Wike will be directing the affairs of the state. It's not easy to make somebody a governor.”

The remark highlights perceptions of Wike’s enduring influence and strategic political control, even after leaving office, as well as the challenges faced by successors trying to assert authority in Rivers State.

Analysts note that Ogolo’s comment reflects broader concerns about the balance of power between outgoing political heavyweights and current officeholders, suggesting that patience and diplomacy may sometimes be more effective than confrontation in politically sensitive environments.

Observers say this perspective could shape public expectations of Governor Fubara’s leadership style and his approach to navigating relationships with influential figures like Wike in the coming years.
