El-Rufai Says He Returned to Politics to Help Remove ‘Evil Government’ He Helped Bring In

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he originally planned to retire from politics after completing his tenure but decided to remain active due to what he described as a moral obligation to correct past political choices.

Speaking in a recent remark circulating in political circles, El-Rufai stated that his earlier intention was to step away from public life after serving as governor of Kaduna State. However, he said his continued involvement is driven by the belief that he shares responsibility for the emergence of the current administration.

“My initial plan was to retire from politics after serving as Kaduna State governor. But looking at the fact that I was part of those who contributed in bringing this evil government onboard, it’s only fair for me to contribute to destroying and sending the government out of power,” he said.

The statement has triggered mixed reactions across party lines, with supporters describing it as an act of political accountability, while critics see it as a sign of deepening elite divisions ahead of future elections.

Analysts say the comment underscores growing realignments and internal disagreements within Nigeria’s political class as preparations gradually build toward the next general election cycle.
