A police officer has died from gunshot wounds sustained while courageously repelling an armed robbery attack in Benue State.
The incident reportedly occurred during a confrontation between security operatives and a group of heavily armed robbers who attempted to carry out an attack in the area. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the officer bravely engaged the suspects and successfully shot three of them dead.
However, he suffered severe gunshot injuries during the operation.
The wounded officer was immediately rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities described his actions as gallant and selfless, noting that his swift intervention prevented further harm to residents. Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track down any fleeing members of the criminal gang.
The Benue State Police Command expressed condolences to the officer’s family and colleagues, assuring the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
