The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that it has disbursed a total of N161.97 billion to 864,798 students across the country since the launch of its student loan portal.
NELFUND stated that the disbursement is part of its ongoing efforts to expand access to tertiary education in Nigeria, providing financial support to students who may otherwise face challenges funding their studies.
The portal, which aims to simplify loan applications and ensure transparency, has been described by officials as a major step toward modernizing student funding in Nigeria. Beneficiaries span universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions nationwide.
NELFUND emphasized its commitment to supporting education and human capital development, noting that the initiative is designed to empower students, reduce financial barriers, and enhance the overall quality of higher education in the country.
Officials also encouraged eligible students who have not yet accessed the portal to apply promptly and benefit from the available funding, highlighting that the programme is central to Nigeria’s long-term educational and socio-economic development goals.
