Minister Hannatu Musawa Says She Shares Deep Bond With Ex-Husband Abdul Samad Rabiu, Calls Him “Family

Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has spoken candidly about her past marriage to billionaire industrialist and BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, describing him as “family” and one of the most significant people in her life.

Musawa made the remarks during an interview on Mic On Podcast on Saturday, January 24, where she reflected on her personal journey, her former marriage, and the enduring relationship she still shares with the Kano-born businessman.

According to the minister, she has no regrets about marrying and later divorcing Rabiu, stressing that she is proud of her choices and grateful for the experience. She emphasized that their bond has evolved beyond marriage into a lasting family relationship built on mutual respect, affection, and shared history.

“Abdul Samad is my family. His family and my family have become one. We have known each other for over 30-something years, and we are just family, basically,” Musawa said.

She explained that despite the end of their marriage, their connection remains strong, describing Rabiu as a father figure, brother, friend, and protector, not only to her but to many others.

“He’s my father, my older brother, my friend. He’s everything to me. I’m very happy to have a member of my family in Samad Rabiu,” she added.

Addressing questions about lingering emotions, Musawa said there is no bitterness or resentment between them, noting that love and family ties continue even after separation.

“He is my ex-husband, but we are still family. We come from a background where once you are joined together, you continue to participate in each other’s lives,” she stated.

Reflecting on life’s uncertainties, the minister acknowledged that divine purpose sometimes redirects human plans.

“Man proposes, God disposes. Perhaps had I remained married to Abdul Samad, I would not have been here seated and talking with you,” she said.

When asked directly if she still has feelings for the BUA chairman, Musawa responded emotionally, saying Rabiu will always hold a special place in her heart.

“Samad will always have my heart. He is one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had, and I will always love him for the rest of my days,” she said.

The interview has since generated wide reactions across social media, with many Nigerians commending Musawa’s openness, maturity, and respectful tone in discussing a deeply personal chapter of her life.
