Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has described Governor Sim Fubara’s reported political struggles with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as a “sad narrative,” highlighting the importance of recognizing leadership hierarchies and political mentorship.
Fayose stated:
"There's a difference between the office of the governor and the state's 001. In Ekiti, we believe that those who gave you life are the fathers of those who gave you money. Fubara should be able to manage this situation. If Wike says he is the leader, it is not for the mouth of Gov. Fubara to contest that."
The former governor’s comments underline his belief that political success often depends on acknowledging mentors and established leaders within a party or region, and that public disputes with senior political figures can undermine a governor’s credibility.
Fayose’s statement has already generated reactions on social media, with citizens debating the balance between independence and loyalty in Nigerian politics, and the role of senior politicians like Wike in guiding younger leaders like Fubara.
