Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has raised alarm over what he described as growing threats to his safety and political influence in Rivers State, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of targeting him.
Speaking during a public engagement, Wike claimed that the APC has become a direct threat to him in Rivers State, alleging sustained political intimidation and hostility linked to his outspoken stance on key national and state issues. He said the situation reflects rising political tension in the state, particularly as alignments and power blocs continue to shift.
Wike, a key political figure in Rivers State politics, noted that he has remained firm in defending his principles and would not be intimidated by any party or group. He stressed that democracy thrives on freedom of expression and political participation, warning that attempts to silence opposition voices undermine democratic values.
The former governor did not provide specific details of the alleged threats but maintained that the developments are serious and should not be ignored. He also called on security agencies to remain alert and ensure the safety of lives and property, especially as political activities intensify ahead of future elections.
The APC in Rivers State is yet to officially respond to Wike’s claims. However, the statement has already sparked reactions across political circles, with supporters and critics engaging in heated debates over the evolving power struggle in the state.
Rivers State remains one of Nigeria’s most politically strategic states, and Wike’s remarks further highlight the deepening political tension shaping its landscape.
