42-Year-Old Ibadan Woman Cries Out Over Troubled Marriage to Younger Husband

A 42-year-old woman from Ibadan has shared a deeply emotional account of her marriage, sparking conversations online about emotional maturity, power dynamics, and abuse in relationships.

According to her story, the woman, a self-made makeup artist and brand influencer, got married late last year to a 30-year-old man from Enugu. She revealed that her husband lives in her house, eats her food, and spends her money freely—issues she insists have never been a problem for her financially.

However, she says the real struggle lies in his behavior.

The woman described her husband as emotionally immature, explaining that whenever disagreements arise, he resorts to prolonged silence, sometimes lasting days or even weeks. She said communication breaks down completely, forcing her to always take responsibility for restoring peace, even when she is not at fault.

She recounted several incidents where she apologized repeatedly, bought him flowers and gifts, and even purchased an iPhone just to get him to speak to her again. In one instance, she said he smashed her glass table during an argument, which she replaced, yet still ended up apologizing.

What finally pushed her to speak out, she said, was an incident two nights ago when a heated argument led to her husband smashing her phone, packing his bags, and walking out of the house. Since then, both of his phone lines have reportedly been switched off, leaving her unable to reach him.

“I am tired—tired of the childish reactions, tired of apologizing all the time, tired of paying emotionally, financially, and mentally just to keep peace,” she said.

Despite everything, the woman admitted that she still loves her husband deeply. She pleaded not to be advised to divorce, stating that she fears returning to singlehood after enduring hardships in the past. Instead, she asked for guidance on what steps to take next.

Her story has since generated strong reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over emotional abuse, anger management, and unhealthy relationship patterns, while others highlighted the need for counseling, boundaries, and professional intervention.

The woman requested anonymity as discussions around her experience continue to trend across social media platforms.
