Zamfara Commissioner Alleges Minister Matawalle Empowered Armed Bandits

Abdulmalik Gajam, Zamfara State Commissioner, has made serious allegations against Minister of State for Defence and former Governor, Bello Matawalle, accusing him of empowering armed bandits and reportedly granting them asylum within the State Government House.

According to Gajam, the alleged actions by Matawalle contributed to security challenges in the state, raising concerns over the handling of law enforcement and anti-banditry measures.

“There are credible reports that armed bandits received support and refuge at the Government House under the former governor’s administration,” Gajam reportedly stated.

The claims have generated widespread discussion on social media, with many Nigerians expressing shock and calling for investigations. However, officials close to Matawalle have not yet responded publicly to the allegations.

Security analysts say such accusations, if verified, could have serious political and legal implications, potentially impacting trust in government institutions and ongoing anti-banditry efforts in Zamfara.

The situation underscores the urgent need for transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s fight against armed criminal groups, particularly in states plagued by banditry.
