A social media user has shared a frustrating experience with sending an iPhone 17 Pro Max to Nigeria, highlighting ongoing challenges with customs and regulatory processes.
According to the user, the phone was sent to Nigeria with roughly $200 added for shipping. Upon arrival, Nigerian Customs (@CustomsNG) initially held the package, demanding a payment of ₦212,000, which was paid.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA, @ndlea_nigeria) also reportedly requested additional documentation, including the sender’s details, a letter explaining the relationship with the recipient, and the receipt of the phone. The sender escalated the issue via DHL Global (@DHLGlobal, @DHLAfrica), noting that their ID had already been provided.
While the NDLEA eventually withdrew their request, the package remained on hold with DHL. The situation worsened when Customs demanded ₦600,000, claiming the phone had been undervalued. The user described the experience as a chaotic and costly process, lamenting, “Nigeria is hell man.”
The incident has sparked discussions on social media about the difficulties of shipping electronics to Nigeria and the challenges faced by individuals navigating customs and regulatory requirements.
