RSU Students Kidnapped at Emohua Campus — Families Urged to Check on Loved Ones

Reports have emerged that four students from Rivers State University’s Emohua satellite campus were abducted in the early hours of Tuesday, sparking widespread alarm among students, families, and residents.

According to eyewitnesses and student accounts, suspected gunmen — believed to be cultists — broke into an off-campus hostel in the Rumuohia/Rumuche area of Emohua Local Government Area around 2:00 a.m., firing shots and reportedly killing the security dog guarding the premises before abducting the students.

The assault triggered panic across the campus and host communities. Many students described lives under constant fear, citing previous cases of robberies, attacks, and harassment around the Emohua campus.

In response, the state police launched a manhunt. The spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the abduction and said tactical units have been deployed to track down the suspects and ensure the safe return of the students.

The incident has reignited calls from students and community stakeholders for improved security measures around RSU’s satellite campuses — many of which are in high-risk areas. In recent days, some students had protested the persistent insecurity around Emohua and demanded relocation to the main campus.

At press time, authorities are yet to confirm the number of victims or reveal their condition. The police are appealing to anyone with credible information to come forward to aid the investigation.
