A video circulating online has sparked nationwide outrage after reportedly showing women and young people being violently attacked during a protest at the Kwara State Government House.
The protesters were calling for help after their husbands, children, and family members were kidnapped by terrorists in several villages across the state.According to eyewitness accounts and social media reports, the demonstrators, many of whom appeared vulnerable and distressed, were met not with dialogue or assistance but with hired thugs armed with canes and whips. Shockingly, the assault reportedly occurred in full view of police officers, who allegedly did not intervene to protect the protesters.
The footage has drawn widespread condemnation, with Nigerians describing the incident as a blatant violation of human rights and an abuse of power. Social media users have expressed anger at what they perceive as a failure by the Kwara State Government to protect its citizens, instead allegedly enabling the dehumanization of people seeking help.
“This is not a country. This is a jungle,” one user wrote online, highlighting the frustration and fear felt by residents. Calls for accountability have intensified, with citizens urging local and international attention to the plight of the affected families.
Human rights advocates stress the importance of protecting peaceful protesters and providing urgent solutions to the ongoing kidnapping crisis in parts of Kwara State. As of now, there has been no official response from the state government addressing the allegations or detailing steps to ensure the safety of citizens affected by terrorism.
The video continues to circulate widely, with calls for justice and global awareness growing louder as Nigerians demand that the women and families who suffered in the protest are not ignored.
