Otedola Sells Shares in Geregu Power in N1 Trillion Deal

Billionaire investor and chairman of Geregu Power Plc, Femi Otedola, has reportedly sold a significant portion of his shares in the power generation company in a transaction valued at about N1 trillion.

The development, which has sparked major interest across Nigeria’s financial and energy sectors, is one of the largest equity transactions in the country’s capital market in recent times. The sale is believed to involve shares held through Otedola’s investment vehicle and was executed through negotiated or off-market deals.

Geregu Power, one of Nigeria’s leading power generation companies, has been a major success story since its listing on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), with its share price recording remarkable growth and significantly boosting shareholder value.

Market analysts say the transaction reflects growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s power sector, while also highlighting Otedola’s strategy of value creation, investment growth, and timely exits. Despite the sale, it remains unclear whether Otedola has completely exited the company or retained a strategic stake.

Neither Geregu Power Plc nor Otedola has released a detailed public statement on the structure of the transaction as of press time.

The N1 trillion deal further cements Otedola’s status as one of Africa’s most influential investors and underscores the increasing scale of high-value transactions on Nigeria’s capital market.
