NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed Resigns Following Meeting with President Tinubu

Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has officially resigned from his position after a high-level meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, was reportedly convened following allegations against Ahmed involving economic sabotage and corruption within the petroleum sector. Details of the discussions remain confidential, but sources indicate that the resignation was tendered voluntarily in the wake of the meeting.

Ahmed’s resignation comes amid heightened scrutiny of the NMDPRA’s operations, particularly regarding the issuance of petroleum import licenses and the management of regulatory oversight in the downstream sector. The development is expected to trigger a transitional period as the government evaluates the leadership and operational strategies of the authority.

President Tinubu has yet to announce a replacement or interim leadership arrangement for the NMDPRA, but the resignation marks a significant moment in ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and transparency within Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

Further statements from both the Presidency and NMDPRA are anticipated in the coming days.
