Amid rising concerns over security in Nigeria, citizens and analysts are asking President Bola Tinubu why certain figures, including Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle and prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, have not faced accountability despite alleged showing of sympathy to terrorists.
The questions follow recent reports and public statements accusing Matawalle of allegedly supporting armed bandits in Zamfara State, and controversies surrounding Gumi’s engagements with bandit groups in the North. Social media users are questioning the government’s commitment to justice and the fight against terrorism.
“Tinubu, what do you owe Matawalle, Gumi that you cannot try them despite showing sympathy to terrorists?” one concerned Nigerian asked online.
Security experts note that such inaction could undermine public confidence in the federal government, while emboldening criminal networks. Calls are growing for a transparent investigation and accountability measures against individuals allegedly aiding or sympathizing with terrorists.
The debate highlights the growing tension between national security imperatives and political considerations, as Nigerians demand decisive action against all forms of support for violent groups.
