Social commentator Mike Arnold has publicly criticized former presidential aide Reno Omokri for allegedly reducing his online advocacy for Leah Sharibu, the Nigerian schoolgirl abducted by Boko Haram in 2018.
Arnold pointed out that Omokri reportedly removed the #FreeLeahSharibu hashtag from his social media profile around the time President Bola Tinubu was elected and has rarely mentioned her since.
“From what I can find, Omokri removed #FreeLeahSharibu from his profile line about the time Tinubu was elected and has hardly mentioned her since,” Arnold tweeted.
The comment has drawn reactions from Nigerians online, with some expressing disappointment over perceived inconsistencies in advocacy campaigns, while others caution about judging activism based solely on social media presence.
This controversy adds to ongoing debates about sustained advocacy, public accountability, and the role of influencers in social causes in Nigeria.
