The establishment of Kogi State University (KSU), Kabba, has opened new doors of opportunity for young people in Okun land and beyond, broadening access to tertiary education in the region.
For decades, students in Kogi West had to travel long distances to Lokoja or outside the state to pursue higher education. Today, with KSU Kabba taking root, many young people can now study closer to home, reducing the financial burden of relocation, accommodation, and transportation.
Parents and community leaders in Okun land say the institution is already transforming the socio-economic landscape. Small businesses around Kabba town are experiencing a boost, while local landlords report higher demand for student housing.
The university, which offers a growing number of faculties and accredited programs, is also attracting partnerships and investments that are expected to strengthen human capital development in the area.
Education advocates note that the presence of the varsity will not only raise literacy and employment prospects for Okun youths but also serve as a hub for innovation, research, and community service in Kogi West.
Stakeholders, however, continue to call on the state government to ensure steady funding, quality infrastructure, and staff welfare to make the institution a true center of excellence.
With the university gradually finding its footing, many believe it could be the turning point in expanding equitable access to higher education in Kogi State.
