Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed strong confidence in newly confirmed Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), stating that the former Chief of Defence Staff could be the key to tackling Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
Akpabio made the remark shortly after the Senate concluded its confirmation of Musa following a rigorous screening session. According to him, Musa’s extensive military background, operational experience, and reputation for strategic discipline position him as a potentially transformative figure for Nigeria’s defence sector.
“General Musa could be the solution to Nigeria’s insecurity,” Akpabio said, noting that the nation needs a defence leader with both field experience and a deep understanding of modern security dynamics.
He added that the Senate expects the new minister to bring fresh direction to counterterrorism efforts, banditry response, military coordination, and defence reform across the country.
Public reaction to Akpabio’s comments has been mixed, with some Nigerians hopeful that Musa’s appointment will mark a turning point in restoring national stability, while others caution that meaningful progress will depend on political will, resources, and sustained collaboration between security agencies.
Musa is set to resume duties immediately as Nigeria continues to grapple with evolving security threats across multiple regions.
