Young farmers under the umbrella of Yofin have taken center stage at the National Summit on Agroecology, Climate Justice, and Public–Private Partnerships, including the validation of Nigeria’s National Agroecology Strategy, held in Lagos.
The two-day summit convened top policymakers, agricultural experts, civil society leaders, and youth-led farming groups to set a clear roadmap for the future of sustainable agriculture in the country. Yofin representatives were active participants, notably during the press conference focused on validating the national strategy an exercise that reaffirmed the growing influence of young farmers in the push for climate-resilient food systems.
Key discussions at the summit revolved around core national objectives, including: Strengthening agroecological practices within farming communities, Advancing climate justice to shield vulnerable populations, Expanding public–private partnerships to support sustainable agriculture and Ensuring active youth participation in policy formulation and implementation.
Delegates jointly reviewed and fine-tuned the National Agroecology Strategy, resulting in a comprehensive communiqué outlining commitments, timelines, and policy recommendations for national implementation.
Stakeholders stressed the critical role of agroecology in securing long-term food systems, mitigating climate risks, and encouraging environmentally conscious farming practices across Nigeria.
With youth voices at the forefront, the Lagos summit marks a significant push toward institutionalizing agroecology nationwide signaling a future where young farmers drive innovation, policy impact, and sustainable agricultural development.
