Burna Boy Pledges to Cover Funeral Costs for Children Killed in Stockton Mass Shooting

Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has pledged to cover the funeral expenses of the four young victims killed in a tragic mass shooting at a children’s birthday party in Stockton, California.

The victims, aged between 8 and 21, were fatally shot on Saturday, November 29, at Monkey Space, a banquet hall in unincorporated San Joaquin County. Authorities report that eleven others were wounded in what is believed to have been a targeted attack.

In a statement shared with the Stockton Record, Burna Boy said he first learned of the tragedy while listening to The Breakfast Club radio show. “When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke,” he said. “No family should ever face this kind of pain alone. I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”

Through industry executive Wack 100, Burna Boy connected with Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee, who confirmed the artist’s intention to support the affected families. The musician was particularly moved by the story of 14-year-old Amari Peterson, one of the four victims, described on a GoFundMe page as an active football and basketball player who had begun planning for college.

Vice Mayor Lee expressed gratitude for Burna Boy’s generosity, noting that the gesture should inspire others to step forward and support the grieving community.

As of Tuesday, December 2, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, which has drawn national attention and renewed discussions about gun violence in the United States.

Burna Boy’s outreach comes shortly after a viral incident in Colorado, where he paused a performance to call out audience members who appeared to be asleep, demonstrating his willingness to use his platform to address both societal issues and personal accountability.
