Boris Johnson: “I Feel Perfectly Safe in Nigeria” — Ex-UK Prime Minister Dismisses Insecurity Concerns

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has brushed aside global media reports portraying Nigeria as unsafe, declaring that he feels “perfectly safe” in the country.

Johnson made the remarks on Thursday while speaking at the Imo State Economic Summit 2025 in Owerri, where he was a special guest of honour.

He revealed that some people had expressed fear over his decision to travel to Nigeria, citing the country’s security challenges, but he chose to proceed regardless.

“When I decided to come to Owerri, I read some things, and there were people saying, ‘There may be some security problems in Nigeria.’ Have you heard that?” Johnson asked the audience.

“And I said, ‘Well, I am going to go anyway.’ We all feel safe here today in this conference. And I feel perfectly safe. Thank you, Governor, for what you are doing.”

Johnson commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for improvement efforts in the state, particularly his plans to provide 24-hour electricity across Imo. He described stable power supply as a key driver of economic growth and industrialisation.

He further highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence in accelerating development, telling participants that AI would be central to shaping the future of technology and governance in Imo State.

The former UK leader’s positive remarks come at a time when Nigeria continues to face significant security concerns, and his statement is expected to generate national conversation on both perception and progress in safety reforms.
