Bob-Manuel Udokwu Debunks Claims of Disrespect Towards Pete Edochie

Veteran Nollywood actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu has refuted reports suggesting he accused legendary actor Pete Edochie of parading himself as the oldest figure in Nollywood.

In a recent interview with NollyNow, Udokwu clarified that his remarks on a podcast were misrepresented, stressing that he never made any derogatory statement against the respected screen icon.

“The line that I said Pete Edochie is parading himself and deceiving others never came from me. That was a complete misrepresentation. That is very wrong for me to do,” Udokwu explained.

Providing further context, Udokwu stated that within the framework of modern Nollywood, he began acting before Edochie joined the industry, but acknowledged that Edochie had already gained fame through his iconic role in Things Fall Apart, which predates Nollywood as an established industry.

He added: “What I stated was that if you’re talking about Nollywood as an industry, I started acting before him. But he had already done Things Fall Apart, which was not part of Nollywood. Even Kanayo O. Kanayo once made a similar point.”

Udokwu emphasized his deep respect for Pete Edochie, describing him as a living legend whose contributions remain unparalleled in African cinema.
