Agriculture Must Rise to Its Full Potential, Says YOFIN Coordinator

Young Farmers in Nigeria  (YOFIN) Coordinator Abdulbasit Solihu Olatunji, has emphasized that agriculture remains one of Nigeria’s most critical sectors, but continues to fall short of its true potential.

Speaking on the current state of food production and rural development, the coordinator noted that despite the sector’s importance, major challenges persist from low productivity and inadequate mechanization to insufficient support systems for farmers.

According to Olatunji, these setbacks are contributing to rising food insecurity and slow economic growth. Yet, the coordinator expressed optimism that agriculture is increasingly being recognized as a powerful tool to tackle unemployment and stabilize Nigeria’s economy.

He stressed that with stronger policies, modern technology adoption, and greater youth participation, the agricultural sector could transform into a major economic pillar capable of feeding the nation and boosting national prosperity.

“Once we reposition agriculture with innovation and better investment,” he said, “Nigeria can unlock millions of jobs and ensure sustainable growth for future generations.”
