Phyno Speaks Out: “Friends Told Me I Must Join A Cult Or Sacrifice Someone To Blow”

Popular Nigerian rapper, Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, widely known as Phyno, has shared a candid reflection on his rise to fame, revealing the pressures he faced early in his career.

The award-winning artist disclosed that at the beginning of his musical journey, some friends advised him that the only way to “blow” in the industry was to join a cult or make sacrifices.

“Some people look at us today and think we got it easy, not at all. In fact, I’ve never loved easy things. Before many people heard of Phyno, I had songs that no one knew existed. A couple of friends told me to blow, I must join a cult or sacrifice something or someone. I told them the price is too much, I’ll never do such,” Phyno said.

The rapper stressed that his success came through belief, hard work, and consistency, not shortcuts. He urged young talents to avoid desperation, especially when chasing record deals.

“Young talents need to relax, do not be desperate about record deals or bringing on the spotlight. Keep working, when it’s time you’ll shine. Imagine begging a label to sign you — what kind of terms will they give you? They already know you are desperate and they will use you,” he warned.

Phyno advised upcoming artists to focus on building themselves independently, insisting that nothing pays more than hard work and patience.

His remarks have sparked conversations among fans and industry watchers, with many praising him for speaking against the darker narratives often linked to the entertainment industry.
