Pastors Should Stop False Preachings, Miraculous Preachings Can Never Build a Nation – Osinbajo

Nigeria’s former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has cautioned religious leaders against promoting false and miracle-centered doctrines, stressing that such practices cannot build a strong and prosperous nation.

Speaking at a public lecture in Lagos on Wednesday, Osinbajo urged pastors to focus more on teachings that encourage hard work, integrity, innovation, and national development, rather than misleading congregations with promises of instant miracles.

“False preachings and the obsession with miraculous claims have never built any nation. Nations are built through discipline, knowledge, character, and a collective commitment to progress,” Osinbajo stated.

The former Vice President, who is also a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), emphasized that while faith is important, it should not replace personal responsibility and national accountability.

He called on the church to play a stronger role in shaping values that promote honesty, productivity, and patriotism, warning that the culture of expecting miracles without effort weakens the moral and economic foundations of society.

Osinbajo’s remarks have since generated conversations across social and religious circles, with some praising his boldness, while others argue that miracles remain a central part of Christian faith.
